Alcoholism Treatment Program

Since alcohol addiction is one of the biggest addiction problems in the world, its become the focus of numerous studies into potential treatments and cures. If you are looking for an alcoholism treatment program, then there are several highly effective programs that's been proven to work. Although none of them are "magic bullets" anyone who has become dependant on alcohol is twice as likely to succeed as breaking the addiction with the help of a program.

So, which treatment program is right for you? There is no hard and fast rule for what will work best for you. it really depends on your dependency on alcohol and your own individual personality. Here are some of the most effective alcoholism treatment programs.

- 3 Step Process of Intervention
This is particularly effective for people who are in denial about their problem and if you know someone whom you would like to help, then this can work very well. The 3 step process involves intervention, detoxification and rehabilitation. Many alcohol treatment centres use this process.

- Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)
Probably the best know and most effective treatment for alcoholics worldwide it has at its base the concept of reconnecting with yourself and finding your self again. Since alcoholics lose touch with themselves and reality, the group interaction and support network makes this a very good program that's helped millions of people who are alcohol dependant.

- Motivation Enhancement Therapy
This type of treatment is usually led by a qualified psychologist and the focus is on helping the patient find a reason to stop drinking. This is very powerful because one of the main problems that alcoholics face is having enough and strong enough motivation to be sober.

- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
This type of therapy is focused on finding the root cause of the problem and dealing with it there. Since drinking is usually the result of some other problem, it can be very effective to deal with this cause as a way of stopping.

Alcohol Treatment Centres For Outpatients

If you have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol to the point where its affecting any aspect of your life negatively, then you need to start an alcoholism treatment program. Many people who have developed a drinking problem don't like to be referred to as an alcoholic and most are in denial about their problem. The reality is that if drinking impacts any part of your life negatively and you cannot keep yourself from doing it, then you have a problem and the sooner you deal with it the sooner your life can return to normal.

Alcohol related addictions is one of the biggest social problems we face and in the USA and Europe there are more treatment centres than ever before. Along wit this, our methods of treatment is more effective than ever before which makes it easier than ever before to stop drinking and to live a happy and sober life.

Although people with more serious addictions may need continuous supervision to overcome the addiction, the majority of people can beat the addiction by being an outpatient. Most alcohol treatment centres offer outpatient programs and is the perfect solution for anyone who still has to lead a "normal life" while treating their alcohol problems. The success rate for outpatients is quite high and different treatment centres have different programs for outpatients. In the majority of cases you will work with your counsellor for an hour or two per day until a point where you start making significant progress.

Outpatient treatments are also much more affordable as full time care and assistance can be costly. Since most treatment centres are private, you usually pay for the quality of treatment. There are a number of government funded projects which is in no way inferior to some of the high priced private alcoholism treatment centres.

The important fact of the matter is that you need to join some alcoholism treatment program as soon as possible. You are far more likely to succeed and as an outpatient you can get all the necessary treatment and guidance without putting your life on hold.

The 12 Step Process To Alcohol Rehab

One of the most effective programs for alcohol rehab is the 12 step process as outlined and followed by Alcoholics Anonymous (or AA as its commonly known). The first step is the most important and is all about acceptance. its about accepting your dependency and that alcohol has control over your life. The second step is about realzing that you can do something about it and that you CAN change and break the addiction.

The third step of the AA program is one of the most important and is often the truing point for many. Its about finding God and accepting the guidance and presence of a higher power in your life. When you surrender to God you can reconnect to the very essence of who you really are and effect some radical changes with relative ease.

Steps 5 to 9 is all about reconciliation. Firstly, you admit your mistakes to yourself, to God and to your family and all those who were affected by your addiction. By asking God for guidance and through introspection you can now move on and accept a life of total sobriety. By turning the focus inwards, by asking for forgiveness and by asking for guidance you are now ready to move on to the final steps of the program.

The final 2 steps is all about reaching out and helping others. In helping others we always help ourselves and by praying for those who are going through similar woes, you in affect pray for yourself as well. The final steps is about the final "spiritual awakening" and becoming a role model and a guide to others who are still going through the process. Alcoholics Anonymous is all about ex-alcoholics helping alcoholics. Its about passing on the wisdom from someone who has been there to someone who still wants to get there.

The most powerful part of the program is the fact that its based on spirituality and finding your "self" again. By reconnecting to the highest part of yourself and getting guidance from people who had the same experience you can truly come out a better person. In fact, many people at the end of the AA Program see alcoholism as their greatest blessing.

Alcoholism Treatments

Before you can start any alcoholism treatment program, you or a loved one need to reach a point that all recovered alcoholics had to arrive at. This is the point where you WANT to change. Any therapist will tell you that even the best therapies in the world are worthless if the person don't want to change. This can be a big step for many because they are often in denial or unwilling to give up the addiction that often suppresses a lot of other issues in their lives.

Reaching this point is not really something that can be enforced at will. For many alcoholics there is something that serves as a wake up call. An accident or a loved one leaving or something that can bring them back to reality. An intervention from friends and loved ones can also be a very useful strategy.

Once someone genuinely wants to be free from alcohol, treatment can begin and today there are more treatment options available to those who are suffering from alcoholism. Traditionally Alcoholics Anonymous has been the first port of call and many still see it as the most effective treatment. The problem is that it offers very little professional guidance and it basically run by ex-alcoholics helping each other out.

Professional treatment centres however are equipped to provide state of the art treatment to make the process as quick and effective as possible. By combining medical treatments with therapy, a patient can get personal attention from trained experts which can make the difference between alcoholism and sobriety for many.

Different treatment centres run different alcoholism treatment programs but for the most part the patient will go through a physical detox that goes hand in hand with therapy and even group work to help him or her work through the real issues that is at the root cause of the problem.
